Headpin keeps your bowling scores on your own device. There's no account to make, no ads, and no server with your games on it.

Privacy

What stays on your device

Everything you enter. Sessions, games, frames, shots, your arsenal, spare lines, oil patterns, lane notes and your settings are written to IndexedDB in your browser. They stay on that device until you delete them or the browser clears its storage.

Headpin does not ask for an account, an email address or a name. It uses no cookies and carries no advertising. There is no consent banner because there is nothing to consent to.

What does leave your device

Here's everything that does leave your device. Ball photos are not among them: all 446 of them are served from headpin.app itself, so looking at the catalog contacts no other site.

• Hosting. The site is served by Vercel. Like any web host, its servers record ordinary request logs, which include IP addresses. Once the app is installed it runs from your device's cache, so it usually only contacts the host to check for an update.
• Feedback. "Send feedback" opens a draft email to hello@headpin.app in your own mail app. Headpin fills the body with your app version, install mode and how many rows are in each table, and puts the same text on your clipboard. It never includes your scores or the names of the places you bowl, it sends nothing by itself, and the draft sits in your mail app until you send it. A sent email carries your address, because that is how email works.
• Page counts. The site uses Vercel Web Analytics, which counts page views, referrers and rough country-level location. It sets no cookies, stores no identifier in your browser, and never sees anything you enter in the app. It's there so I can see how many people open Headpin. See Vercel's privacy policy. The landing page at headpin.app also counts its visits with Umami, including which ad or link a visit came from, with no cookies either.
• Usage counts. The app sends two anonymous counts to Umami: that a session was started (which number it is, such as "2", and how many days since your first, in bands such as "8 to 14"), and that a game was finished (which number, in the same bands). That is all they carry: never a score, an alley, a ball you own, a note or anything you typed. They set no cookies and store no identifier on your device; a count made with no signal waits on the device until it can be sent. Like every request on the internet they carry your IP address. They're there so I can see whether people who try Headpin come back. See Umami's privacy policy.
• Outbound links. Links to manufacturer pages take you to sites with their own policies.

Headpin is not directed at children under 13. It collects nothing that identifies anyone, of any age.

Your data and backups

Browser storage is not permanent. A browser can clear it when the device runs low on space, and it is erased if you clear site data, uninstall the app, or use private browsing. Headpin asks the browser to keep its storage persistent, but browsers are free to say no.

There is no copy of your scores anywhere else, and no way for anyone to restore them. Export a backup regularly from Settings, and keep the file somewhere you would keep a photo you care about.

Ball names, images and trademarks

Headpin's ball catalog lists equipment by its real name so you can find the ball you actually throw. Ball names, brand names, logos and product images are the property of their respective owners, and are used here to identify those products.

Headpin is an independent project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by or connected to any ball manufacturer, any bowling center, the United States Bowling Congress, or any other bowling organization. Oil pattern names are likewise used only to identify the patterns.

If you own a mark or an image here and would like it changed or removed, get in touch and it will be changed or removed.

Terms of use

Headpin is free to use, and is provided as it is, with no warranty of any kind. It is a score keeper, not a system of record. Scores, averages and statistics it shows are for your own use, and are not certified or sanctioned by any league or governing body.

To the fullest extent the law allows, Headpin and its maker are not liable for any loss or damage arising from using it, including lost or corrupted data. Your remedy, if the app does not suit you, is to stop using it.

Do not use Headpin to break the law, and do not try to interfere with the site or with other people's use of it. These terms may change; the date at the top says when they last did.
